Witchford girls enjoy Girlguiding UK Centenary celebrations

Were you ever a Brownie or a Guide or maybe you have a daughter, sister, mother, aunt or niece who is a member of Girlguiding UK?

Would you like to help out now to make sure that Guiding continues for another 100 years???

We are actively seeking more helpers to join us in helping girls in Guides, Brownies and Rainbows to have fun and try out new experiences, especially in this our Centenary year.  If you are interested and would like to find out more about what we do, we’d love to hear from you.

You can contact Felicity Burns 01353 661264, Rosemary Braund 01353 665222 or Alison Kelly 01353 648244

You might be interested to know that we started celebrating 100 years of guiding in September this year. It was 100 years ago in 1909 that a group of girls approached Robert Baden-Powell at a Boy Scout Rally to ask if he could provide ‘something for the girls’.  This was the start of the Girlguiding movement so it is well worth celebrating.  Guides, Brownies & Rainbows from Witchford are looking forward to a whole year of fun and adventures.  In fact we’ve already started celebrating.  We kicked off the year with a huge opening for the County in Cambridge.  A fantastic day of activities around the town was laid on and with 2000 members there, it was quite a sight.   Witchford Guides have also attended a weekend camp at Mepal Outdoor Centre where a fantastic time was had by all.  The Guides tried out many different water sports, problem solving, orienteering, archery and rifle shooting.  Some girls got to do the ‘high ropes’ which was great fun but scary too!!

Over the next year there will be a huge Centenary Camp at Quy, a concert just for Guides at Wembley Arena and Girlguiding will take over Newmarket Racecourse next July for another huge day of fun with over 100 activities provided.  There are so many events available to us this year; it truly is a great time to be involved in Girlguiding as there are so many opportunities to try something different.  The Centenary year will end on 20th October 2010 @ 20.10, but of course the fun and opportunities will continue as Girlguiding looks forward to the next 100 years offering even more challenges, excitement and adventure in the years to come.

This really is a most exciting time to be a part of the UK's largest organisation for girls and young women! What better way to do something different; have fun volunteering in your community and make new friends!!

Why not give us a try?
