Parish Council Elections 2015

Parish Councillors are elected to serve for a period of four years. Every four years Parish Council election must be called, usually to coincide with the District Council elections. 2015 is an election year for the Parish and District Councils (and also for the United Kingdom Parliament). Polling day is set for 7th May 2015. There are 11 positions on Witchford Parish Council. Any person over the age of 18 who is a British, Irish or European Union citizen and who meets any of the qualifying criteria may nominate themselves as a candidate for election to the Parish Council.

If there are 11 candidates or fewer at the close of the nomination period, then those candidates will be elected to the Parish Council. If there are more than 11 candidates, then the Returning Officer at East Cambridgeshire District Council will hold a poll on 7th May 2015 to run alongside the polls for District Councillors and the Member of Parliament.

Nomination papers are available from East Cambridgeshire District Council at their website http://www.eastcambs.gov.uk/elections-voting/forthcoming-elections-7th-may-2015 or 01353 665555 or from the Parish Clerk at witchfordparishcouncil@eastcambs.gov.uk or 01353 664427.

The closing date for submission of nomination papers is 4pm Thursday 9th April 2015. Papers submitted after this will not be accepted. East Cambridgeshire District Council has asked that nomination papers be submitted as early as possible.

Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the East Cambridgeshire District Council office at Nutholt Lane Ely. The Parish Clerk may also submit nomination papers by hand on behalf of a candidate.

Nominations may not be posted to the District Council.

Candidates and their proposers/seconders must state their electoral numbers on the nomination papers – these can be obtained from the Parish Clerk or from East Cambridgeshire District Council.

All candidates (whether successful in being elected onto the Parish Council or not) must submit a Declaration of Expenses form to East Cambridgeshire District Council Returning Officer within 28 calendar days of the date of election.

Notice of election will be posted on 30th March 2015.
