The management committee of Witchford Village Hall and Playing Fields is investigating extending CCTV surveillance at their site in a bid to clamp down on dogs being exercised on the community playing fields.

Signage is to be improved at access points to the recreation ground in Bedwell Hey Lane, following an escalation of incidents of dog faeces being found on the football pitches.

Up to 250 boys, girls and adults play football at the Witchford Playing Fields every week for both training and organised games but irresponsible dog owners are exposing players to health risks.

“The playing fields are a busy and popular sporting facility and we are determined to clamp down on a few errant dog owners who seem to have a blatant disregard for other users,” said Andy Howe, acting chairman.

“We are going to be doing all we can to identify and educate those responsible and if necessary, will take legal action against persistent offenders.”

If you can have any information that would help the management committee, please contact the site steward, Becki Connor Tel. 07933 126585 or email: villagehall@witchford.org.uk. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.
