A team of Witchford parents, aptly named 'The Crazy Climbers' will be taking part in the 'Three Peaks Challenge' in just over two months time (2nd May 2014) to raise money for an important, yet expensive, ICT project which will benefit all children at the Rackham Church of England Primary School in Witchford.
Mat McClagish, who will be taking part in the challenge alongside fellow team mates Craig West, Kevin Atkins, Steve Parish, Becca Green, Richard Barber, Chris Grant and their drivers Steve Wayman and Philip Brown, explained, "The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland, often within 24 hours. It is a popular misconception that the three mountains in question are the three highest in Britain. Over one hundred peaks in Scotland are higher than Scafell Pike, and 56 higher than Snowdon."
Mat also described, "The maximum climbing times are generally suggested as being around 4 hours for Snowdon...and 5 hours for Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike, but you should aim for a half hour or so under. In itself this time isn't unrealistic for most relatively fit people, but it's certainly not a gentle walk, and when three climbs are required within 24 hours the Challenge becomes more difficult, draining your energy and depriving you of sleep. We intend on completing the three peaks within 24 hours!"
